Karl Rove, a top political aide to former President George W. Bush, has long been an amnesty advocate and steered Republican leaders away from the pro-immigration enforcement, pro-American worker elements of the Party. So, as the Daily Signal reports, it is interesting to note Rove’s political action committee, American Crossroads, is running an ad in Iowa that attacks Democrat Rep. Bruce Barley for supporting “immigration amnesty.”
The 30-second ad, which was largely financed by Rove, cites a Heritage Foundation report concerning the fiscal cost of the Senate-passed comprehensive amnesty bill in an attack on the Democratic candidate.
In the past, Rove advised against using the word amnesty to refer to legislation that legalizes illegal aliens. Dan Holler of Heritage Action for America told The Daily Signal. “It’s not news that amnesty is bad policy and bad politics—conservatives have been making that case for a decade. Apparently Rove now agrees. So the only question is whether the GOP will govern in 2015 the way they campaigned in 2014.”
Commenting on the ad, NumbersUSA President Roy Beck said, “This is another sign that GOP insiders are coming to grips with where most voters are and moving toward the pro-worker vision Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) has for the Party. This doesn’t mean that we can count on Rove to be an advocate for the pro-worker agenda but, for the moment, he is not working against it.”
