Oregon has been one of the fastest-growing states in the U.S. over the last several decades, increasing its population by over 50 percent since 1982. Despite aggressive efforts by state and local governments to mitigate sprawl, and reductions in per capita land consumption by Oregonians, the state lost 656 square miles of open space between 1982 and 2015.
