Food Security in the 21st Century

The idea that there could be a shortage of food in the United States seems remote to most Americans, if they even give it a thought at all. The abundance of inexpensive foods high in sugar, fat, and sodium, and lacking in nutritional value, poses a real health risk to Americans. It also masks a larger problem—the future of U.S. food security.

PBS’ To the Contrary with Bonnie Erbé tackled this issue, and correctly emphasized how immigration-driven population growth will make it more difficult to ensure the nation’s food production system is safe, abundant, and secure for future Americans.
