California Passes New Motor Voter Law That Could Allow Some Illegal Aliens To Vote

Motor Voter Legislation for Illegal Aliens

Published:

The new motor voter law (AB 1461), signed this week by California Gov. Jerry Brown, automatically registers anyone who has a driver’s license to vote through the DMV. In California illegal aliens can obtain a driver’s license, which means they could be automatically registered to vote if the Secretary of State’s office fails to verify their eligibility accurately.

The new law was prompted after low voter turn out in last year’s elections as a way to simplify the voter registration process. The law does include an eligibility screening process before being added to the voter rolls, but there is skepticism about the accuracy of this program.

True the Vote founder, Catherine Engelbrecht, claims this bill “makes an already bad situation much, much worse,” and warns that California’s registration databases “lack the necessary safeguards to keep noncitizens off the voter rolls.”

True the Vote spokesman, Logan Churchwell, points out that California state officials, “specifically chose not to make noncitizen license holders searchable in their DMV database.”

Stephen Frank of California Political Review claims that the new law may lower voter turnout due to corruption and fraud. “AB 1461 assures corruption of our elections–our elections will look like those of Mexico and other corrupt nations–and honest people will stop voting since illegal aliens will out vote them,” he said.

California is the second state to pass a law automatically registering people to vote through the DMV, Oregon passed a similar law in March 2015.
