Border Patrol Union Doubles Down on 'Catch-and-Release' Warning

Published:

Thursday on a FOX News “O’Reilly Factor” segment, Border Patrol Agent and union spokesman Shawn Moran warned that the Obama Administration’s “Catch-and-Release” policy is forcing Agents to let illegal aliens “walk out the front door” without knowing “who we’re releasing, and…what they’re capable of.” The National Border Patrol Council has said Agents are under orders from top Homeland Security officials to release illegal aliens without a Notice to Appear (NTA) before a deportation judge, a claim the Obama Administration has denied.

Also on the segment, Border Patrol Agent and union Vice President Art Del Cueto said illegal aliens won't reveal anything in their past that might prevent their release.“No one’s going to tell you. You can’t find out if they’ve murdered. You can’t find out if they’ve molested minors. You can’t find out if they’ve raped.”

Fox News correspondent Eric Shawn discussed the catch-and-release policy the union exposed and mentioned a leaked memo published in the National Review that appears to substantiate their claims. He also said the Administration claims it never issued such a policy and that “the opposite is true” – apprehensions are on the rise.

However, in a submittal to the House Judiciary Committee, National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd discussed a meeting he and two other Border Patrol Agents had with Homeland Security Deputy Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas concerning the catch-and-release policy. Mayorkas reportedly confirmed the policy saying “Why would we NTA those we have no intention of deporting? We should not place someone in deportation proceedings, when the courts already have a 3-6 year backlog.”
