7 Senators Ask DHS Secretary to Increase H-2B Visas

Published:

A group of Senators led by Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) sent a letter to DHS Secretary John Kelly asking him to use his authority granted by Congress to increase the H-2B visa cap. In May, Congress passed the provision that would allow for another 70,000 visas to be issued in the current fiscal year.

A DHS spokesman has said that they plan on increasing the number H-2B visas beyond the cap but the number of additional visas is still being determined.

A bipartisan group of senators sent a letter to Kelly before the budget hearing asking him not authorize the increase. NumbersUSA has sent its own letter to Kelly.

The senators who signed the letter include:

Tom Carper (D-Del.)
Angus King (I-Maine)
Susan Collins (R-Maine)
Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.)
Chris Coons (D-Del.)
Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn)
John Thune (R-S.D.)
