OPT – A Fraud-Ridden Immigration Program

Immigration and Customs Enforcement discovered 10,000 cases of fraud in the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program. In one case, 500 “students” reported employment at a business with three actual workers.

The findings are shocking (see more at the action link below), but the biggest fraud is the program itself.

The OPT program as we know it was conceived as a way to get around caps on the H-1B program, another notorious guest worker system that displaces Americans with exploited guest workers.

Congress has multiple options to stop the program, including bills from Arizona Representatives Paul Gosar and Eli Crane, and Senator Jim Banks.

Unlike most longstanding immigration problems, however, the Trump Administration doesn’t have to wait on the Legislative Branch. OPT is an invention of the Executive Branch. The Bush Administration created it. The Trump Administration can end it.
