In the GOP primary for Iowa Governor, businessman Zach Lahn upset U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra, who had secured President Trump’s endorsement. The result will likely have implications for immigration policy in the Hawkeye State.

Rep. Feenstra, who is retiring from Congress after six years in the House, has a good record on immigration enforcement, but hasn’t consistently engaged on the mass immigration question.
Lahn positioned himself as a candidate eager to tackle problems with the legal system as well as enforcement. He promised to “make it impossible for illegals to get jobs,” and also to “ban H-1B holders from being hired by Iowa government and universities.”
“The reason is, Iowa people will do these jobs. I reject the idea that our people won’t do these jobs,” Lahn said during a debate. “We have some of the most hardworking kids in the country.”
