Hundreds Show up for Job Fair in Rural Ohio
A new mining company that is building a new steel manufacturing plant in Ohio just across the West Virginia border hosted a job fair on Wednesday that attracted 300 applicants. The company will hire about 50 workers.
The job fair was hosted by the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce.
"They were here early this morning," Executive Director of Lawrence Economic Development Corporation Bill Dingus said. "Started at 9, and they were here around 8 -- so just really committed to getting a job and probably would make great employees."
The jobs being offered included production operators and maintenance personnel.
The unemployment rate in Ohio is 7.2%, which is right around the national average, but organizers of the job fiar said there are plenty of people looking for work in the area.
House Speaker John Boehner represents a district in Southwest Ohio.
