New Poll Reveals Americans Favor Enforcement over Amnesty and Ending Birthright Citizenship
A new poll from Quinnipiac University reveals that the overwhelming majority of Americans believe immigration reform should focus on stricter enforcement over amnesty, while a plurality of Americans support ending the practice of birthright citizenship.
The poll, released today, asked 1,905 registered voters if immigration reform should focus on "stricter enforcement of laws against illegal immigration" or "integrating illegal immigrants into American society" and 68% of respondents favored enforcement. Only 24% favored the amnesty option. In a breakdown of party affiliation, Republicans, Democrats, and Independents all favored enforcement over amnesty.
Respondents were also asked if they thought the United States should end the practice of granting automatic citizenship to newborns, and 48% favored ending the practice compared to 45% who oppose ending the practice.
The poll also asked respondents if they thought Pres. Obama was doing a good job of handling the immigration issue and 60% disapprove of his efforts.
