116 Arrested in Miami-area ICE Raids
Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the Miami-area have arrested 116 immigration fugitives and immigration violators in a five-day targeted enforcement operation.
Of those arrested, 74 are immigration fugitives and 42 are immigration violators. 86 of those arrested remain in custody while 30 were processed for removal and released as part of the Alternatives to Detention program.
Michael Rozos, field office director for the ICE Office of Detention and Removal Operations in Florida, said, "ICE helps to maintain the integrity of our nation's immigration system by identifying, arresting and removing aliens who have ignored a judge's order to leave the country.... While we are a welcoming country, we expect those wanting to immigrate here to do so in a safe, legal and orderly manner. We will continue using all our resources to ensure that removal orders are carried out and locate these immigration violators who potentially pose a threat to public safety."
18 of those arrested had criminal records, with past convictions including sexual assault, possession of cocaine, aggravated assault, and driving under the influence.
