ICE Agents Tell President Obama 'No Amnesty'
In a statement, ICE National Council president Chris Crane has told President Barack Obama that he is in no position to push for comprehensive immigration reform:
The President is in no position to demand Congress pass immigration reform. His administration and DHS leadership have undermined ICE's enforcement mission and put the public safety and national security at risk. Officers are currently forced to apply his DREAMer orders to detainees in prisons and jails.
Crane's statement is in response to President Obama's Wednesday demand that Congress move forward with passing comprehensive immigration reform. President Obama has made it clear that he supports legislation that provides the 11-18 million illegal aliens living in the United States with work permits, legal status, and an eventual path to citizenship. The president has started this process for some illegal aliens by ordering immigration agents to stop deportation proceedings against so-called "Dreamers."
Crane continued in his statement:
“I hope Democrats and Republicans in the House will reject the calls of the White House and its big business allies seeking to profit from ‘reform’, and make its first priority on immigration to investigate the corruption at [the Department of Homeland Security]
Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions commented on President Obama's call for immigration reform: "All over the country, Americans are struggling to find work. It is unthinkable that the President would continue to lobby Congress on behalf of special interests in order to double the flow of immigrant workers into the country, as bills in both the House and Senate propose."
