Texas Legislator Offers Immigration Enforcement Bill
Monday was the first day Texas state legislators could offer bills for the 2011 legislative session, and State Rep. Debbie Riddle was first in line to offer an immigration enforcement bill similar to the one passed by Arizona earlier this year.
Texas is one of several states that will likely vote on a bill similar to Arizona's immigration enforcement bill that allows local law enforcement agents to enforce federal immigration laws.
"It gives law enforcement officers a discretionary tool they can use in the event that someone is being detained anyway because of a warrantless arrest," describes Riddle of her immigration-related proposed legislation.
"If an officer so chooses, he can inquire as to that individual's immigration status."
