Jobless Rate Hits 10.2%
The unemployment rate rose to its highest level since 1983, with 10.2% of Americans out of work in October. About 190,000 jobs were cut during the month, while the federal government imported 125,000 foreign workers over the same period of time.
The rate increased from 9.8% in September after economists predicted it would only rise to 9.9%. Since the start of 2008, 7.3 million jobs have been lost in the United States. Over that span of time, more than 2.7 million foreign workers have been allowed entry into the country.
