ICE Arrest 11 in Wisconsin
Immigration and Customs Enforcement teamed up with local officials in Kenosha, Wis. to arrest 11 illegal alien gang members from Mexico. "Operation Community Shield" is a national initiative where ICE officials work with local authorities targeting the threat posed by transnational street gangs.
Two of the 11 arrested were turned over to Kenosha authorities and face outstanding criminal charges. One had been deported in 1996 as an aggravated felon and returned illegally. He now faces charges filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office. The other eight will face administrative immigration charges and are in ICE custody awaiting deportation.
"Street gangs pose a growing public safety threat to communities throughout Wisconsin," said resident agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Milwaukee Brian Falvey in an ICE news release. "We will not tolerate violent gang activity in our communities. We will use all of our law enforcement tools to thwart the criminal efforts of street gangs. ICE's Operation Community Shield shows how we work with our law enforcement partners to dismantle these criminal organizations and help protect our communities."
Since ICE began Operation Community Shield in February 2005, more than 11,400 gang members belonging to more than 700 different gangs have been arrested nationwide.
