Louisiana Senate Passes E-Verify Bill
The Louisiana State Senate overwhelmingly passed a bill that would require state contractors to use E-Verify. The bill passed by a 34-to-1 margin. It now heads to the House for consideration.
In addition to requiring the use of E-Verify, SB 66 would require continuous checks by the contractor during the life of the state contract who could see their contracts terminated by the state if they don't comply.
“I just don’t think public dollars should be spent on a person who doesn’t have a legal purpose in this state or the United States,” said bill sponsor state Sen. Neil Riser.
If passed by the House, the bill would go into effect in 2012.
