New Poll Says Most Voters Consider Illegal Aliens A Major Budget Burden
A Rasmussen poll released today found that 67 percent of U.S. voters believe illegal aliens are a significant strain on the U.S. budget. Only 23 percent do not believe illegal immigration causes significant budget strain.
The poll reveals that 66 percent voters believe government money and services act like a magnet and draw illegal aliens to the United States. 19 percent do not believe benefits and services attract illegal aliens.
Rasmussen concludes the findings underscore why 68 percent believe gaining control of the border is more important than legalizing illegal aliens. Only twenty-six percent say legalizing illegal aliens is more important. Rasmussen consistently found majority support for controlling the borders over the last several years.
The findings come from a national telephone survey of 1,000 likely voters that was conducted on March 1-2, 2010. The margin of sampling error was +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
