Rep. King's Border Security Amendments to DHS Spending Bill Pass in the House
Two border security amendments offered by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) to the 2012 DHS spending bill were passed by the House of Representatives on Wednesday. The two amendments would reallocate funds to provide funding towards removing lookout posts along the U.S.-Mexico border and to hire shadow wolves.
Both of Rep. King's amendments were passed by voice vote in the House.
Rep. King's first amendment reallocates $1 million of funding in the spending bill from U.S. Customs and Border Protection salaries to be used to remove lookout posts along the Southwest border. These lookout posts are used to help illegal aliens and drug smugglers avoid border patrol agents stationed in the desert.
His second amendment also reallocates $1 million of funding to require hiring of shadow wolves by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Shadow wolves are an elite unit that track smugglers along the U.S.-Mexico border.
