Gavin Newsom, the Mayor of San Francisco, announced that his city will no longer underwrite the costs of sending illegal alien drug dealers back to their home countries, the Washington Post reports. This decision comes in the wake of threats by U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello to prosecute city officials for harboring criminals. Illegal aliens with drug convictions will now be turned over to federal officials for deportation. San Francisco is not expected to alter other aspects of its illegal sanctuary policy, which prohibits city officials from cooperating with federal immigration officials to deport illegal aliens.
