Temecula, Calif. Passes Local E-Verify Ordinance
Temecula, Calif., located about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego, has taken immigration enforcement into its own hands. Last night, the city council approved a new ordinance that makes the use of E-Verify a requirement to possess a business license in the city.
Several NumbersUSA activists attended last night's council meeting or called and emailed city council members to show their support for the proposed ordinance. Six NumbersUSA activists spoke at the hearing.
The newly passed ordinance will require all businesses to register with E-Verify and to check the work authorization status of all new hires as a condition of receiving or maintaining a business license. The ordinance will go into effect on January 1, 2011.
