Two Immigration Bills Pass Through Virginia House Subcommittee
A bill that would make E-Verify mandatory for most employers in the state and a bill that would tighten admissions to state colleges and universities have been approved by the House Immigration Subcommittee. Both bills (HB1727 and HB1465) passed the subcommittee with a 4-to-2 vote.
HB1727 would require all Virginia employers with at least 15 employees to use E-Verify to check the worker eligibility of new hires. Virginia already requires state agencies to use E-Verify and is one of 13 states to have some form of an E-Verify law in place. HB1465 would require state colleges and universities to establish guidelines regarding student admission and student conduct, including a provision that prohibits illegal aliens from being accepted to state institutions.
