Illegal Alien Population Remained Steady in 2010
A report from the Department of Homeland Security reveals that the illegal alien population in the United States remained steady from January 2009 to January 2010. According to the report, the number of illegal aliens increased slightly from 10.75 million in 2009 to 10.79 million in 2010.
California continued to have the largest illegal alien population with more than 2.5 million illegal aliens residing in the state. Texas had the second largest population with 1.7 million illegal aliens. Florida, Illinois, Arizona, Georgia, New York, North Carolina, New Jersey and Nevada rounded out the top 10.
A recent Pew Hispanic Research Center study revealed that 8 million illegal aliens were in the workforce as of March 2010, unchanged from the number in the workforce in March 2009. More than 800,000 U.S citizens and legal immigrants lost their job from 2009 to 2010.
