Mexico's Net Migration to U.S. Dropped 50% in 2008
The number of Mexicans returning back to Mexico actually fell, but the number leaving for the U.S. had a decline of close to 300,000.
In an article published by the Associated Press, Eduardo Sojo, president of Mexico's National Statistics, Geography and Information Institute, said the number of households receiving remittances has also declined from 1.41 million to 1.16 million over the last three years.
Experts say the fluctuation in the numbers isn't necessarily due to the declining economy in the United States, and the future of U.S. immigration legislation will have the biggest impact on the numbers.
