Rep. Ellmers doubles-down on support for Amnesty
Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) doubled down on her support for amnesty earlier this week while hosting a business panel in Cary, N.C. She expressed her support of the GOP principles that includes legalization for most illegal aliens saying, "out conference has put forward principles and I want to stick to those."
"Those who are living amongst us in the shadows are living under amnesty," Rep. Ellmers said. "That's why this issue is so, so very important. For me, as we discuss this, it's really not an issue of citizenship or pathway to citizenship or amnesty. It's an issue of becoming legal, out of the shadows and dealing with the issue of illegal immigration."
A business owner from Golden Corral who was on the panel said American won't work in food service, but research from the Center for Immigration Studies found that 86% of food preparation and servers at fast food restaurants are native-born Americans, while 16% are immigrants and fewer than 10% are illegal aliens.
Rep. Ellmers also cast doubt on whether immigration laws can be enforced.
"It hasn't just been the Obama administration that has not adhered to the immigration laws on the books -- it was the Bush administration, it was the Clinton administration and it was the Reagan administration. You have to ask yourself: are those laws simply unenforceable? And if that's the case, let's fix them."
