Kentucky State House Passes E-Verify Bill
The Kentucky House approved an E-Verify bill (H.B.321) last week that would require government contractors to use E-Verify for all new hires. The bill passed the House 93-to-3 and moves to the Senate for its approval.
The bill's lead sponsor is Rep. Bob Damron, and contractors who violate the law, if passed, would face a five year ban from government contracts. The bill also includes contractors for local school districts.
Ten other states have passed E-Verify laws, and three others have Executive Orders in place requiring the use of E-Verify. Several other states have bills in the legislative process, including Virginia and Michigan.
