Leading Capitol Hill Publication Features NumbersUSA Call to Suspend Most Legal Immigration
Roy Beck's blog from December 5, he called for "limiting immigration mostly to nuclear families and our fair share of internationally recognized special needs refugees" as a logical response to declining economic numbers.
"How can [it] make any sense for the American people's own government to be recruiting more competitors for a dwindling number of jobs?" Beck wrote in his blog Dec. 5. "Month after month as hundreds of thousands of Americans lose their jobs, the feds keep pumping another 140,000 new foreign workers into the labor force."
However, the CQ article went on to challenge Beck's monthly figure of 140,000.
"That's just a gross distortion of the numbers of employment-based immigrants ... these are people who are carefully screened and their employers have to prove there aren't U.S. citizens that could do the job," Angela Kelley, executive director of the Immigration Policy Center, a migration advocacy group, said in an interview with CQ. "There's no green card giveaway program, despite Roy Beck's effort to distort current law that way."
