Disabled Vets Benefiting from the Expanding Use of E-Verify
A new report from Lincoln, Neb. reveals that disabled veterans returning from Iraq or Afghanistan are finding jobs because of the increasing number of companies using E-Verify. The report focuses specifically on three vets that now work for the Lincoln Verification Operations Center. The new center works under U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and helps private businesses verify new hires using E-Verify.
Between 1,000 and 1,500 private employers sign onto using E-Verify each week, and Citizenship and Immigration Services has been establishing support centers across the country to assist these employers. The local center is committed to hiring honorably discharged veterans, and of the last 75 new hires, 44 of them fought in either Iraq or Afghanistan.
Not only is the expansion of E-Verify opening up these new verification centers with a focus on hiring returning vets, but the expanding use of E-Verify among private employers is also ensuring returning vets are ahead of illegal aliens for new jobs.
