Border Patrol Agent Killed in Arizona
A Border Patrol agent was shot and killed late Tuesday in Southern Arizona, according to the Associated Press. The U.S. Border Patrol confirmed that four suspects are in custody. Another is being sought.
A Border Patrol spokesman, Eric Cantu, identified the agent as Brian Terry. He was killed in the Peck Canyon area north of Nogales, a known smuggling corridor. The agent’s death is under investigation by the FBI and the Santa Cruz Sheriff's Office.
T.J. Bonner, president of the national Border Patrol agents’ union, said that Terry and other agents were waiting for suspected border bandits when the shooting began. No other agents were injured, although one suspected bandit was wounded. "This is a sign that the politicians and bureaucrats are overly optimistic in their assessment that the borders are more secure now than at any point in our history. It showed just the opposite," Bonner said.
Terry was working on Border Patrol’s BORTAC SWAT team at Naco Station at the time of his death
