Hemet, Calif. Passes Mandatory E-Verify Ordinance
Hemet, Calif. in Riverside County unanimously passed a new ordinance requiring all businesses in the city to use E-Verify. The ordinance goes into effect on June 9.
According to reports on a hearing held earlier this week, the ordinance passed with no debate and everyone at the hearing spoke in favor of using E-Verify. The area that includes Hemet has a 14% unemployment rate.
Businesses that are found guilty of hiring illegal aliens after the ordinance goes into effect will be told to dismiss the illegal employee after the first offense and risk losing its business license on subsequent offenses.
