America's Jobless

African-Americans hit inordinately hard by recession

Published:

The cold fact, however, is that this deep recession is hitting African-Americans more severely than the overall population, due largely to the staggering levels of unemployment for this segment of the population.

When October unemployment data come out Friday, the nation's seasonally adjusted rate is expected to nudge upward, close to 10 percent. But among African-Americans, the jobless rate was 15.5 percent in September. In Illinois, the black unemployment rate was closer to 18.6 percent in the third quarter, according to estimates by the Economic Policy Institute.

NumbersUSA is mobilizing our 920,000 members to contact their Representatives to urge defeat of the Rule to bring H.R. 3962 to the House floor.

NumbersUSA takes no position on the non-immigration parts of the bill.  But Speaker Pelosi and the Rules Committee have broken the promises that Pres. Obama made that illegal aliens would be excluded from any part of a new federal health care plan.

Jobless Rate Hits 10.2%

Published:

The unemployment rate rose to its highest level since 1983, with 10.2% of Americans out of work in October. About 190,000 jobs were cut during the month, while the federal government imported 125,000 foreign workers over the same period of time.

White House Claims 'Stimulus' Saved/Created 650,000 Jobs (but it imported 1,125,000 foreign workers at same time)

A few minutes ago, the White House issued a new report claiming that the Stimulus Bill earlier this year has created or saved approximately 650,000 U.S. jobs. All of us need to point out to every local newspaper, every Member of Congress and every one of our co-workers and family that the federal government has imported more than a million working-age foreign citizens this year to negate every positive impact the stimulus could have had for U.S. workers.

Immigration Enforcement DOES Belong in Senate Floor Debate About Unemployment Payments

Sen. Durbin (D-Ill.) uses his leadership position continually to make false claims about E-Verify's reliability and to project the absolutely foolish notion that unemployment and immigration have no relationship. But while he laments the 125,000 who have recently lost their unemployment benefits (I do, too), he ignores the fact that HIS immigration policies now in place have given out 125,000 brand new work permits to foreign workers during the last month.

Sen. Sessions Offers E-Verify Amendment to Unemployment Extension

Sen. Jeff Sessions

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) is offering an amendment to the unemployment extension bill that would require new applicants for unemployment compensation to have their citizenship status verified using E-Verify. The amendment is being offered to H.R.3548, which would extend unemployment benefits for 14 weeks.

LTE: Anti-illegal immigration bill working

The bill works by simply requiring employers to run new employees through the federal E-Verify database to determine if they are legal residents. Employers have had the opportunity to use this database for some time and many concerned employers did. We didn't get an actual bill today, but the pro-amnesty forces were pretty clear about what they want us American citizens to swallow in "comprehensive immigration reform." Rep. California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed a bill that would have prohibited cities, counties or districts from requiring employers who receive government contracts to use an employment verification system like E-Verify. Most National Christian Leaders Declare War on Unemployed in Their Pews -- and on the street

Nearly all the Christian denominations now have national leadership calling for more foreign workers in the U.S. -- even though their members in the pews are suffering in a jobs depression. It is time for American Christians to call their leaders back to an intellectually honest and morally sound stance on immigration. In this blog, I will list the types of Americans who are suffering the most under the immigration advocacy of these denominational leaders.

The California clothing manufacturer, American Apparel, is firing about 1,800 employees whose identity documents contain irregularities. In other words, they are illegal aliens. The wording in the articles, columns, and editorials written about this would have you believe that the people being fired have done nothing wrong. But they have.

Recession Hits Immigrants Hard

The number of foreign-born residents of the U.S. declined for the first time since at least 1970, as a recession and tight labor market dented America's image as the land of opportunity.

A decline in construction jobs lured fewer immigrants from their home countries, especially those from Mexico, according to the Census Bureau's annual American Community Survey. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125356996157829123.html

That was quite an admission by the President on yesterday's talk shows about having to create 150,000 jobs each month to keep up with the growing working population. Media Elites Continue Push for More Foreign Labor Despite High Unemployment

I watched NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday afternoon and heard TV and magazine journalists warn that the U.S. may have entered a long era of European-style high unemployment. Then I got online and saw that writers for some of the nation’s largest newspapers are still talking about needing to increase foreign labor to relieve U.S. worker SHORTAGES! Irrational? Yes. But if you are as committed as Congressional leaders to high immigration, you apparently have no threshold for embarrassment.

Number of Immigrants Applying for U.S. Citizenship Is Down 62%, Study Finds

The number of immigrants applying to become U.S. citizens plunged 62 percent last year as the cost of naturalization rose and the economy soured, according to an analysis released Friday by the National Council of La Raza, a Latino advocacy organization.

In late 2007, the application cost increased from $330 to $595, plus an $80 fee for computerized fingerprinting. Partly in anticipation of the price increase, 1.38 million people filed applications in 2007, creating a backlog that nearly tripled the average processing time.

After Court Ruling, Obama Now Should Replace Illegal Workers With Unemployed Americans

The Obama Administration has dilly-dallied all year in carrying out the Bush regulation to require federal contractors to run new hires through E-Verify. Now that a federal judge has thrown out a court challenge by greedy businesses as essentially being nonsense, Obama should drop plans for watered down regs and use this as an opportunity to put far more Americans back to work than has happened through last winter's Stimulus Bill.

I don't really think these religious leaders hate the Black American underclass. But they HAVE abandoned it.

Is your local newspaper reporting high homelessness among families -- not because of drug addiction and not because of mental illness but because they lost a job and can't find another one? The most important way to fight the homelessness of these families is to give them access to jobs. But Congress responds by potentially taking away another 125,000 jobs every month by importing another 125,000 foreign workers. Take a look at the 17 U.S. Senators whose immigration positions work the hardest to keep these American families jobless, and thus, homeless . . . .

Most of you are shocked by the Senate's passage of 4 immigration enforcement amendments this week that would open up hundreds of thousands of jobs to unemployed Americans over the next year alone. This is the Senate that has stood against U.S. workers in favor of illegal aliens repeatedly. While the victories really do represent great progress for our side, we also can be 95% sure that Senate Leader Reid, House Speaker Pelosi and Pres. Obama have every intention of killing these amendments in a backroom deal, just like they killed House-passed enforcement in February. But you can keep that from happening.

E-VERIFY VICTORY -- 8 Senators Switch Sides Since March Defeat

A 9.5% unemployment rate and stories of returning National Guardsmen who can't find jobs -- plus constant pressure from home-state voters -- has finally produced a victory for mandating government contractors to use E-Verify to keep from hiring illegal aliens. After several defeated efforts, Sen. Sessions finally won over a majority of his colleagues this morning. Especially interesting to all of us are the 8 Senators who voted to kill this mandate in March but who supported it today.
