Poll: 28% think Amnesty will pass in 2013
A new poll from Rasmussen asked voters whether they think Congress will pass an immigration bill that includes an amnesty for 11 million illegal aliens in 2013, and only 28% of respondents said yes. That number is down from 37% in May and June who thought Congress would pass a bill. Sixty-three percent of respondents thought passage of an amnesty was unlikely in 2013.
The poll also found that only 32% of voters think it's at least somewhat likely that the government will secure the border if an amnesty passes in Congress. 58% say the feds are unlikely to follow through with border security. S.744, the Schumer-Obama amnesty bill passed through the Senate in June, but only after the bill's authors agreed to an amendment offered by GOP Senators Bob Corker of Tennessee and John Hoeven of North Dakota adding significant resources to the border.
The bill has yet to be transmitted from the Senate to the House preventing the House from taking action on the bill. GOP House leaders have already proclaimed the bill to be dead on arrival, and the chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee, Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.) has called the bill unconstitutional because it generates revenue, which is a power reserved for the House of Representatives.
