ICE Agents Demand Meeting with Obama to Discuss Immigration Reform
ICE Union President, Chris Crane, who represents the men and women that are tasked with enforcing the nation's immigration laws, has sent a letter to Pres. Obama asking for a meeting to discuss immigration reform. Last week, President Obama met with business leaders and union officials, including the AFL-CIO, but did not include the National ICE Council.
The ICE Union is a chapter of the AFL-CIO, and in January, issued a statement saying the AFL-CIO doesn't speak on behalf of the 7,000-member National ICE Council. In his letter to Pres. Obama, Crane mentioned the implications immigration reform would have on Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
"These measures would have significant implications for interior immigration enforcement and I believe our officers — who risk their lives every day to secure the nation — have a crucial perspective to offer," Crane wrote.
Crane testified at last week's House Judiciary Committee hearing on immigration reform and is scheduled to testify during Wednesday's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing.
