Minnesota Catholics to Observe 'Immigration Sunday'
The date also coincides with the Feast of the Epiphany on the Catholic calendar.
"That feast celebrates the unity of being one human family," Director of the Hispanic ministry of the Diocese of New Ulm Sister Anna Marie Reha told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "This is a chance to recognize and celebrate the gifts and benefits immigrants share with us."
Kevin Appleby who is the director for migration and refugee policy for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops said the purpose of the activities are to initiate a dialogue for a humane approach to immigration reform.
"That's something that the politicians need to take care of," he told the paper. "There are Catholics on both political sides of the immigration issues, but I think all Catholics agree that we want this solved in a compassionate way."
