ICE Targets Nationwide Food Chain for Illegal Alien Workers

An internal ICE document revealed that the agency is possibly planning a worksite enforcement operation at a national food chain in the upcoming weeks. The operation will target locations across the country that hire and exploit illegal alien workers.

Illegal aliens are used and exploited by employers who often pay them below minimum wage. “These people are basically being used as slave labor,” said an ICE official, who spoke to The Daily Beast anonymously because he was not permitted to discuss impending operations on the record.

This operation comes about a month after ICE officials said publicly that they will be increasing worksite enforcement under the Trump administration.

The plans show that ICE will focus on franchise owners who exploit the illegal alien workers and have already selected their targets after preliminary investigations. According to The Migration Policy Institute about 9% of all food service workers in the U.S. are illegal aliens.

In an interview with CNN the acting ICE Director said, “When we find you at a work site, we’re no longer going to turn our heads. We’ll go after the employer who knowingly hires an illegal alien... but we’re always going to arrest a person who is here illegally. That is our job.”
