Immigration Provisions in House GOP's "Commitment to America" Agenda

Published:

House Republican leadership has unveiled the party's new "Commitment to America" agenda to members of their caucus. The blueprint is a central group of policies party leadership hopes will help congressional Republicans communicate the GOP's vision effectively during and beyond the midterm elections.

The "Commitment to America" plan is the culmination of years of work and studies by the House GOP to fine-tune the party's core vision of governance should Republicans take back the House of Representatives in November. The plan includes forward-thinking ideas for alleviating some of the country's most significant issues, including the disaster at the southern border.

Republican leadership released the blueprint to their members in a conference meeting Thursday and are set to officially publish the agenda in the form of a two-page pocket card on Friday at an event outside Pittsburgh. However, leadership has already issued a one-page 'preamble' that lays out the crux of the governing vision and explains some of the problems Republicans say Democrats have created since seizing control in Washington.

You can read the preamble below.

Preamble by Breitbart News

Breitbart News reports, "This is the first time since 1994 when former Speaker Newt Gingrich rolled out the "Contract with America" that House Republicans have unified behind a clear agenda ahead of the midterm elections."

Regarding immigration, the "Commitment to America" agenda not only proposes common-sense solutions to Biden's record-breaking border crisis but also promotes a change that would help protect ordinary Americans' labor market and quality of life.

The "Commitment to America" website states:

Record illegal border crossings under this administration have led to more drugs, more crime, and a demoralized Border Patrol who are hamstrung from carrying out their law enforcement mission. The situation at the border has become both a national security and humanitarian crisis and must be addressed immediately.

In 2021, our southern border erupted into chaos and ever since the Biden administration has been in denial about this unprecedented crisis. The American people deserve safety and security and a Republican majority that delivers common sense solutions, not dangerous policies that weaken law enforcement and open our borders.

The GOP blueprint pledges to take immediate action on several issues to help stifle President Biden's and Vice President Harris's out-of-control border disaster. Some of the solutions include fully funding border enforcement strategies, technologies, and infrastructure to prevent illegal border crossings and end the billion-dollar trafficking/smuggling business currently being run by Mexican cartels.

The GOP platform also promises to end the "catch-and-release loopholes" that the Biden administration has deceitfully taken advantage of to release millions of illegal aliens into the interior of the United States. Additionally, the vision outline commits to "eliminating welfare incentives," which act as one of the largest magnets for continued uncontrolled mass illegal immigration across the southern border of the United States.

The most impressive aspect of the party plan is the formal embrace of mandating E-Verify nationally, which GOP leadership accurately states will require prospective employees to have a verifiable legal status in order to get a job.

E-Verify is a free and easy-to-use online federal program already available in all 50 states. It provides a fast and automated link to existing federal databases to help employers determine the employment eligibility of new hires and the validity of their Social Security numbers. This tool allows local businesses to take an active role in ensuring compliance with immigration laws, protecting their local labor market, and improving the quality of life in their communities.

Chris Chmielenski, Vice President of NumbersUSA, commended the immigration provisions of the GOP's "Commitment to America" agenda; he states:

The Biden border crisis has led to more than 3.3 million apprehensions of illegal border crossers since early last year. Instead of addressing this record-level crisis, Pres. Biden has absolved himself of all responsibility. House Republicans, through their "Commitment to America", promise to tackle the ongoing border crisis head on and hold the administration accountable. In addition to providing adequate funding to secure the border and enforce immigration laws already passed by Congress, the Commitment promises to close the loopholes—like catch and release—that have been exploited by the Biden Administration and illegal border crossers alike. Just as importantly, the Commitment promises to protect American jobs from illegal aliens by requiring the use of E-Verify. NumbersUSA applauds the House GOP's commitment to end the ongoing border crisis and prevent future border surges, and we look forward to working with House Republican leaders as they follow through on this commitment.
